Choice Boards Giving kids a choice as to the activities they engage in is a great way to empower them to learn while providing greater ownership. Choice boards represent a solid blended learning strategy where tasks can be scaffolded, differentiated, and contain a mix of digital and non-digital options.

Both the math and reading sessions focused on how edtech could be used during independent work, formative assessment, and pedagogically-sound blended learning. This was then followed with strategies and tools for embedding tech that would assist with both differentiation of instruction and co-planning (virtually).

The self-directed nature and accountability components make all of these tools fantastic elements as part of pedagogically sound blended learning strategies. In addition to those mentioned above, teachers can create their own videos using tools such as Educreations or Adobe Captivate.

We talked about using a tool like Socrative or InfuseLearning to get a quick feel for where students are in their learning, and then apps like Explain Everything , Educreations , or ShowMe which teachers can use to create video tutorials based on learning needs. Unported License.

Meagan also creates screencasts of actual math worksheets using Educreations – a great app for creating screencasts. They can also learn about new start-ups, games and ventures with names like BetterLesson , Blendspace , Edthena , Educreations , Hapara , Nearpod , Zaption , eSpark and LearnZillion , all eager to demonstrate. It’s fun to check out new efforts, even though it’s not clear how many will ultimately survive.
