'Over the weekend was the annual Educon event in Philadelphia. Held at the Science Leadership Academy , the event aims to bring together all those with a vested interest in education for conversations and discussions about the future of schools. I really wanted to be able to go but because I committed myself to other events this year I was not able to attend.

'Google has a lot of neat tools and most of them have great applications for the classroom. I am currently working on a podcast series for the MI Learning channel of iTunes titled " Google- More than Search " [iTunes link]. I haven''t posted any of the episodes on my blog yet, but yesterday I discovered a neat feature that I think is especially worth sharing.

'Thank you for visiting this post! I appreciate your willingness to share ideas on starting an iPod/Podcasting/MP3 Initiative for a K-12 school district. I''ve been asked to look into helping some of the leadership in my school district learn about MP3 players and subscribing to podcasts. Since our K-12 school district has not dipped its toes into administrative or instructional use of MP3 players yet, this initiative, should it go forward, will be setting some precedents.

'Yesterday, @socratech , one of the people in my Twitter network, posted to his blog some interesting thoughts on the experience/skill set the leader of a school technology department should have. Since then, a robust stream of comments has popped up on his blog, and I have taken part in the conversation. Because this is a subject I have some definite opinions on, I wanted to give a shout-out to the post and its comments here on my blog.

'I love how books and technology can mix, in delightful and unexpected ways! Made my second Animoto slide show yesterday, this one to promote reading. I collect We LUV Reading photos from my Facebook friends, and put them in my photo album, with permission first, of course. I decided to celebrate the 50-mark with an Animoto slide show. 30-second shows are free, and full-length ones (anything more than 30 seconds) cost $3.

'I learned early on in my career as an educator to do first then beg for forgiveness later. Then it came to a point when I just "did" in my classroom and never really needed or wanted forgiveness. Lucky for me I had an understanding administration who would let me get away with things.like one time blowing a window out in my science classroom. (But that is another story for another time.

'I recently changed jobs. I went from being the Instructional Technologist for a district of 19 schools to the Instructional Technologist at 1 school in a larger district, much closer to home. It was a tough decision for me. The people in my former district are great. They really care about kids and love what they do. They also take care of each other.
