A Tick List of 21st Century Digital Skills for Teachers

Nik Peachey

I've just been brainstorming digital skills that I believe are required by teachers in the 21st Century. So far I've come up with 45 of them. What's striking for me about this is: few of these skills will have been taught to anyone who trained as a teacher longer than 5 years ago. few of these skills are being taught to teachers training now. the 21st century teacher needs to be a pretty amazingly skilled professional.

Grocery Stores and Classrooms

The Electric Educator

'I live in the town of Brighton , Michigan. It''s not a big town but it''s not small either. It''s a nice place to live. We have three grocery stores: Kroger , Meijer , and VG''s. I have shopped at all three with Meijer receiving most of my business due to their size and location. As of today, that''s changed. My wife, daughter (19 months), son (8 days) and I made our weekly pilgrimage to the grocery store and chose VG''s because of where we happened to be in town.

This Thing Called Internet - Reflections on Early Technology Use in My Classroom

'I''ve seen the video I''m posting at the bottom of this blog post one time before, and now that it''s come across my stream again, I want to preserve it here. It brought back some memories and has caused me some reflection on my early use of technology in teaching. If the broadcast date listed in the comments on the source page of the video is correct, October 8, 1993, when it first aired I was just weeks into my first year of teaching.

Can Brain Science Actually Help Make Your Training & Teaching Stick?

Speaker: Andrew Cohen, Founder & CEO of Brainscape

The instructor’s PPT slides are brilliant. You’ve splurged on the expensive interactive courseware. Student engagement is stellar. So… why are half of your students still forgetting everything they learned in just a matter of weeks? It's likely a matter of cognitive science! With so much material to "teach" these days, we often forget to incorporate key proven principles into our curricula — namely active recall, metacognition, spaced repetition, and interleaving practice.
