The Chromebook Inventory Tool is/was an extremely useful tool for G Suite Admins to make managing and updated their Chromebooks easier. I just learned about a free alternative, Chromebook Getter, that was developed for the education community as a replacement. It performs the same basic operations as the CIT: Extract Chromebook device info from Admin Console to Google Sheets (only for super admins and Chromebooks that are managed).

This is useful for anyone from the tech newbie to teachers and students first learning to adapt to a Chromebook. The "Get Help" app is right in the App Launcher and will open up the Chromebook Help app. In addition, there is a link to Chromebook Central , which is a Google-run help forum for Chromebooks.

It is quite maddening that on a Chromebook where the Caps Lock key should be there is a search icon. You have 2 choices for how to handle Caps Lock on a Chromebook. This will search your Chromebook for applications. In the bottom left of your Chromebook is a circle.

Back in May of 2012, I wrote about Google Chromebooks and how they were great for education. Two and a half years and 11,000 Chromebooks later, I stand by this even more. Our district has over 11,000 Chromebooks deployed in grades 3-12. Here''s why I recommend Chromebooks: inexpensive - average cost, with laser etching, Chrome management and setup is around $310 per device. You can also view, edit and create Office documents right inside Google Drive on a Chromebook.
